All for a good cause, +24’s Dave and Social Sam will be sleeping on cardboard under the night sky. The Turf Sleepout will take place on Friday the 12th of October and will see local business leaders sleeping at Burnley Football Club’s Turf Moor for one night only.
Around 50 businesses will be taking part in the first Turf Sleepout that Burnley has ever seen. Among these businesses are Burnley FC, Burnley Council, Lancashire County Council, Lush, VEKA, Nelson and Colne College and Spencer Hayes Group (and +24 Marketing, of course!).
The event aims to raise money for Burnley FC in the Community, Emmaus Burnley and Jane’s Place.
Emmaus Burnley is the local faction of Emmaus, a charity that provides support, accommodation and training and volunteering opportunities to up to 30 formerly homeless people. Their work locally has had an amazing impact and more about the charity can be found on their website and Twitter account.
Founded after the murder of Jane Clough by her ex-partner, Jane’s place is a SafeNet recovery refuge that offers safe and secure temporary accommodation for women and children at risk of domestic abuse. Jane’s Place is the first of its kind in the North of England, as it provides support for those seeking refuge who have additional complex needs.
Who Are Burnley FC in the Community?
BFC in the Community are Burnley Football Club’s official charity. They work within the Burnley, Pendle, Rossendale, the Ribble Valley and West Yorkshire areas and deliver “over 35 community projects that touch the lives of a huge spectrum of people in and around Burnley”. Their work ranges from projects aimed at young children to elderly and senior citizens. They believe in the power of sport to transform local people’s lives, but their work extends to five key areas, which are: Sport, Education, Health, Social Inclusion and Community Facilities.
